Random Find

I found a backup of random posts I started back in 2007. Here’s a collection of them unedited, literally copying and pasting.

01/17/2008:
In Spite of Gods: The Rise of Modern India

I picked it up because the title was interesting and the picture on the cover was more.

The title…
In Spite of Gods…what does that mean? Does it mean regardless of all the gods present in the Indian subcontinent (whether Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian …) India still rose when it wasn’t supposed to? Is it saying religion limits progress? Why is the rise of modern India strange? Reasons explained in this book make it a great read.

The cover…
Probably a Rajasthani desert with a camel and his owner in the foreground, the owner sits wearing tradition clothes while talking on a mobile. Interesting.

In my opinion, the book is clear, crisp, concise, and very well written. I’d have to say there is not a dull moment in the book. His experiences living in India, and his interviews with some of the most important people in today’s “Modern India” are engaging.

From British ruled India to an India that proved everyone wrong by simply surviving as a democratic, secular nation. From the sharp contrast of the people and government of the North to the ones in the South. The political dynasty, the corruption, lack of timely justice and the lack of basic necessities of the poor are only some of the topics Mr. Luce presents.

I’m sure many will view his book as a biased, prejudice and portrays India in a negative light. In my opinion, the overall high level topics Mr. Luce presents are in the back of every Indians mind. Mr. Luce digs deeper into these topics, [probably more than an average Indian would like to hear] and provides us with details, interviews and his own experiences about Indian life, culture, geopolitics and much else. We as Indians may be scared to discuss these topics, maybe we fear there’s nothing we can do about solving these issues, maybe it’s like “Great-Grandma’s Cake”; it’s always been done that way so we continue to let it happen whether its right or wrong.

I believe if India is to sustain its economic growth, be a leader in the global economy and a superpower in world affairs; it must eliminate poverty and educate the children. Corruption must be demolished, little by little. India has a lot to teach and show the rest of the world. In India, religion plays an important in everyday life and it will continue to be whether rich or poor, Hindu or Muslim. There are of course many differences with religions, with the Indian landscape and the people; but above all else one thing remains the same…We’re Indians.

10/22/2007: The Most Amazing Thing

I saw the most amazing thing the other day.
I couldn’t stop but to stare at it until it was gone.

I’ve never seen a sunset from 30,000 feet in the air.
It’s amazing.

Nearing the airport in Chicago, approx 6:00pm, we’re still cruising and not in descend (??) yet.

The enormous sun glowing bright reddish orange, filling the surrounding void shades of orange, pink, and blue. Counting the seconds, I see the sun lower itself into the horizon that is Midwest America. Soon the sun melts away and is nothing but a line on the horizon, slowly closing in on itself on both sides until it’s a solid bright dot, and then gone. The entire sunset took probably no more than 2 and a half minutes. I’ve never seen anything like it. Nature at its finest

So, today I guess I’ll write about a few things…but they’ll be brief

1. The Toshiba laptop.

* My old Toshiba that I’ve been using for 5+ yrs has gone to computer heaven. I decided to go with another Toshiba, since I know them to be stable, durable, reliable.

2. The Dirty South.
* I’ll be headed down to ATL next week for work, for the InSIGHT conference. Never been to Atlanta, but looking forward to it. I’ll finally be able to get out of the office. I still need to use my vacation days.

3. Beats.
* Currently listening to Horizontal Departures; solid track. Electronic Ambient, if you actually listen to the track, you’ll see what I mean when I say it creates an atmosphere that’s conducive to a higher plane of thought, creative, and peacefulness.

4. Women.
* Wouldn’t you like to know. Not enough…interested?

5. Work.
* Still enjoying it, I guess. I would love to stick around but somethings gotta give… I want a role in the decision making process. What else…Changes; too many. Losing too many good people; sounds like Office Space

Well that just about covers it. I’ve moved on and now listening to…Rotating Minds another album, another artist, but just as solid.

I guess I ranted on enough. I need a vacation. Will try to write soon.

Cheers-

09/16/2007: A Journey…

The journeys we face as explorers [of the globe] are incomparable to the journeys faced by the locals trying to survive, focused on the mission they’ve been born with.

I see an old man, a farmer, with dark complexion wearing all white, walking through his field looking down oblivious to the world moving at full speed around him. I see him in slow motion, looking out from the window of a car on the highway.

More than a glimpse yet relatively quick, I saw a man completely at peace with himself, with his world, with his life as if he found the reason he is to exist, the reason he was put on earth. With my camera ready I took a picture just to capture the moment.

I look for ways to break the daily grind of American way of life, of the career path, the one where it tells you to wake up early, go to work, come out at 6 or later, eat dinner, watch some tv and go to sleep to wake up and do it again.

The reason for existence we don’t know. To find peace with what you have and who you are may very well be the reason for you to exist.

Feedback always welcome.

06/29/2007: This Year

This year started off on a good note. Since last November things have changed. Destiny has played a course in a positive way. Those I’m surrounded with continue to mold me into a new person, evolving from yesterday into the deepest parts of the never-ending horizon being prepared for tomorrow; hopefully.

Tomorrow… whatever that means, the day after today, a new beginning or just another day in the routine of … now?

Finishing my Masters has definitely been a achievement worth celebrating, but I haven’t. Would you care to join me?

Over the course of the next few months my life may once again change…

Who knows – I guess we’ll see…

Feedback greatly appreciated.
